Shirley J. Buis

Shirley Buis passed away peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2023 surrounded by her family. Shirley Josephine Buis was born on February 13, 1928, in Chicago, IL to Louis and Gertrude Schueler. She graduated high school and became a very talented seamstress. She met William Buis and they married in 1968. They moved to Streamwood and spent a wonderful life together, sharing so much love for each other and their family.  Shirley had three children, Alan, Kathy and Joan. She spent her life taking care of her family and stepping up when she needed to.

Shirley was a fiery spirit until the moment she passed. She lived her life with two focuses: keeping life fun and loving her family. She kept up with each one of her family members and made sure to ask how they all were. Over the last several years she lived at Maple Crest in Belvidere, IL. She became the person who “always kept the nurses on their toes” and was always the feisty one. You could always leave it to Shirley to tell you how it is and not to sugarcoat anything. She had many friends there and was loved by all.

She recently celebrated her 95th birthday surrounded by her family and friends and said it was one of the best days of her life. Shirley was always there to give the best advice, support anyone who needed it, and to turn a gloomy day into a bright sunny one. Spending time with her had the power to release any troubles you were holding onto. There are many words to describe Shirley but the one that sums it all up is: Irreplaceable. She will truly be irreplaceable in this world.

Shirley is proceeded In death by her parents, Louis and Gertrude; her siblings, Violet, Louis, Henry and Arlene; her husbands, Frank, Charles, and William; and her children, Joan, Alan and Kathy.  She is survived by her grandchildren, Marc (Savanah) Vargas, Elizabeth (Kevin) Coffey, David Briesch, Brian Briesch, and Scott Briesch; and her great-grandchildren, William Vargas, Kyle Yeary and Wayne Yeary.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
