Mark R. Flesher, 81, of Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 after a long illness with his partner, Lavonne, by his side. Mark was born in Minneapolis, MN on October 26, 1942 to Stanley L. and Jeanette (Sollars) Flesher. He was a proud Marine and served for four years. One of his happiest experiences was his trip with Vets Roll.
Mark worked at Jefferson Lines as a tour bus driver. He was a guard at the Minnesota Institute of Art and later became head of security. Mark was the MIA's first driver and curator for the Artmobile. This mobile traveled all of the upper Midwest, bringing art (especially Native American art) to small communities. He moved to Rockford to take a job as an over-the-road truck driver. He won many awards in trucking competitions and also had an Outstanding Safety Record Award for driving over one million miles.
Mark enjoyed camping and also the many years he spent on his motorcycle. He was a dedicated Minnesota Vikings fan and family man. After retirement, he truly enjoyed time spent at home in his recliner after all his years on the road.
He is survived by his beloved companion and girlfriend of 15 years, Lavonne Strawn; son, David Flesher of Minneapolis, MN; daughter, Sarah (Stephen) Boling of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Suvi and Banks Boling; sisters, Kathy Flesher and Carole (Ted) Chalgren; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and older brother, Jerry.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota at a later date. In lieu of any flowers, consider a donation in Mark’s name to Vets Roll, P.O. Box 26, Beloit, WI 53512.
